If the return to school after a summer of fun wasn't painful enough, kids have to get shots as well.
The Jeffco R-1 school district recently announced new vaccination requirements for all children in school and child care.
The varicella vaccine is required for all students in preschool through second grade who have not had chicken pox. Two doses of the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine are also required, as is the hepatitis B vaccine.
State law requires five doses of the diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis vaccine. However, a national shortage has temporarily lowered the requirement to three shots. If an adequate supply returns, students will be asked to receive missing vaccines.
The district suggests families without a doctor call the family health line at 800-688-7777 to find out about free and cheap health care options.
